M.I.A. – “Paper Planes” (**** 4 out of 5 stars)

For every girl that has ever felt like a bad as* at a party and “gotten down” to this song while swinging their beerto-and-fro, similarly to every guy that has stepped “side to side” when the song “Lean Like A Cholo” plays, well this one is for you.

What really draws you into this song is when you hear M.I.A.’s homegirls chime in, because that’s when you know it’s over, in the sense that if for some reason you could vote on Paper Planes, you sure as hell would not vote a “thumbs down,” because if for some ridiculous reason you did, then the entire clan is going to tear your house down. M.I.A. is undoubtedly one of the coolest and most “gangsta” chicks out there in Hollywood, and she ain’t afraid to show it no matter if she be slingin’ fried tandoori in the Lower Eastside, NY or in the heart of England’s version of “Little India,” this girl is an ultimate British-version of a Bollywood-queen (M.I.A stands for “Missing In Action” and also is an abbreviation of her real name Mathangi Arulpragasam).

She raps smooth and confidant and makes you believe that she’s a part of the “M.I.A third world democracy,” and she’s “got more records that the K.G.B.,” because obviously when you are this beautiful “bonafide hustler” just makin’ a name as you hear gunshots alongside the “cha-ching” of a cash register pouring out dough, then you’ve already been held hostage by M.I.A.’s unparalleled talent. I’m convinced she’s representin’ the poor folk out there runnin’ around on the streets, literally killing themselves as they’re singing: “Another dollar, another day.” Gwen Stefani ain’t no match, and Fergie may bring a pistol to a stand-off with M.I.A., but I gotta say no way in hell is the Fergie-licious gonna take down the bonafide Bollywood hustler.
